Music
Shetland's music culture - especially its more traditional strands - can be truly termed unique. It stands apart from Scottish traditional music. Over centuries, the most important of many external influences have been Scandinavian, thanks to Shetland's location and the islands' close connections with the Nordic countries.
A variety of musical festivals and events is held throughout the year in Shetland. The typical annual schedule of Shetland festivals is as follows:
- April/May - Shetland Folk Festival
- June - Shetland Jazz Festival
- August - Shetland Fiddle Frenzy
- September - Shetland Blues Festival
- October - Shetland Accordion & Fiddle Festival, Peerie Willie Guitar Festival
- November - Thomas Fraser Memorial Festival
