Shetland Jazz Festival

The 3rd Shetland Jazz Festival - Theme: Jazz and Literature - 29th May - 1 June 2014

This will be a festival that celebrates the potent mix where jazz meets literature. There will be items from the Jazz Age of the 1920s with readings from Scott Fitzgerald and others plus an all-star band. They'll also have Christine Tobin and her superb group featuring guitarist Phil Robson, with a range of songs based on W B Yeats, plus other celebrations of Seamus Heaney and his work. They'll have Tommy Smith's collaborations with some of Scotland's greatest poets, Norman MacCaig and Edwin Morgan. They'll have Stan Tracey on his sixtieth anniversary in jazz tour, performing the 25th anniversary of his celebrated Under Milk Wood suite with Bobby Wellins and a narrator of the Dylan Thomas verse. They'll have the Bevvy Sisters with a new set of songs based on Dundee poet Michael Marra. They'll have readings from Kerouac's On the Road, with stories of Ken Kesey and the Magic Bus and the music of the bebop era. They'll have much more.
